THE ADVANTAGES to be obtained by assisted launching of airplanes are rapidly gaining recognition. They are bound to result in improved performance of existing designs and to exert an important influence in new designs. By the use of assisted launching it is possible to shorten the take-off run without requiring the use of excessive power or the temporary over-rating of allowable power for take-off and initial climb and the use of special fuel and high compression while still attaining sufficient excess above stalling speed to insure complete and adequate control of the airplane.
