DURING the last few weeks we have been forcibly reminded that so long as we still are fighting either of our major foes, first claim upon the productive resources of the United States—its manpower, materials, utilities, and industrial facilities—must be the production and delivery of munitions and war supplies.

The whole future of aeronautics in this country depends upon the imminent decisions of the present Congress and of the several government agencies concerned with problems bearing directly on our national air power policies.

AIR POWER—THE KEY TO PEACE AND PROSPERITY

AIR FORCES have been developed in this world of ours only on the basis of national policy; peaceloving nations like the United States developed their aviation industries along the lines of commerce—Germany and Japan developed theirs for aggression.

AT THE OUTBREAK of war—Dec. 7, 1941—this great industrial nation had an air force which was pitifully inadequate, numerically, to cope with enemies in the West and East who had built up the greatest fleets of combat aircraft the world had known.

THE COMING COMPETITION IN FOREIGN MARKETS

AIRCRAFT MANUFACTURERS should plan their export markets now if they want a larger share of world trade than they had before the war. The markets are there—but it won’t be just a case of moving in after reconversion. Agents should be sent out to select the representatives wanted in foreign countries.
