Douglas Aircraft Co. plans to flight test this week its 175,000-lb. YC-124 Globemaster II, scheduled to be the largest production transport in military service. Company officials say the four-engine cargo plane, which is nearly two-and-a-half times as heavy as the C-54 Skymaster, can fly a 50,000 lb. payload 850 miles, unload, and return, without refueling.
