Insulated X-15a-2 Ready for Speed Tests

Edwards AFB, Calif.—Series of test flights to expand the performance envelope of the North American X-15 from a maximum speed of Mach 6 to Mach 7 is expected to begin here this month at National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Flight Research Center (FRC) with a specially modified X-15A-2 version of the aircraft.

Beersheba, Israel—Soviet-built Atoll infrared-guided air-to-air missiles captured at the Egyptian El Arish air base in northern Sinai were exhibited for the first time during the recent Israeli air force day at an airfield near here. The missiles are the only ones known to be in western hands.

EI Arish Air Base, Sinai—Israeli forces are stripping captured Egyptian air bases in the Sinai Peninsula of undamaged Soviet-built equipment and ordnance. The only remaining hardware here is ammunition for small-caliber, antiaircraft guns.
