Dayton-Lockheed C-5A advanced technology transport is earning a reputation as a dependable, easy-to-fly aircraft whose handling and flight characteristics are demonstrably superior to its predecessors. Currently engaged in Category 2 test operations and USAF flight training, the C-5A will enter squadron service with the Military Airlift Command this month.

Wideband Laser Link Test Planned

Palo Alto, Calif.-Feasibility of an extremely wide bandwidth laser communication system for future satellite relay programs has been demonstrated at Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. Research Laboratory here. The system is designed for transmitting analog data at high rates from a low-orbiting satellite to a remote ground station, using one or more geosynchronous satellites as relays, said Dr. Romayne F. Whitmer, manager of Lockheed’s Electro-Optical Sciences Laboratory.

Downward trend in the national economy is affecting general aviation manufacturers to a greater extent than anticipated earlier this year. Average factory billing revenues of all general aviation airframe producers are down 43.9% and unit deliveries are down 34% for the first four months of 1970 as compared to the same period last year.
