Strong Traffic Revival Expected in 1972

U.S. domestic trunk airline passenger business is surging into 1972 with the impetus of a strong 1971 fourth quarter underpinning forecasts for a relatively strong revival of growth in the current year. A sampling of trunk industry and government forecasters puts the range of increased revenue passenger miles in trunkline domestic scheduled service at 6.5% to 10%.

Three Shuttle Booster Concepts Studied

Downey, Calif.—Space shuttle orbiter vehicle looking increasingly like an aircraft has evolved from North American Rockwell preliminary design (Phase B) studies for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The company’s Space Div., teamed with Convair Aerospace for booster design, is concentrating on a basic shuttle orbiter configuration mated with three different booster approaches in anticipation of proposal requests in late February.
