… “Misery” might have been a pretty appropriate characterization of the state of Air Force affairs in the aircraft acquisition business two years ago. We were, in fact, in deep trouble! The [Lockheed] C-5 and the [General Dynamics] F-111 were in serious technical and financial trouble; the [Boeing] SRAM seemed to be headed down the wrong path; and new systems like SCAD weren’t getting started at all!
