Design Advances Boost Salyut Flexibility

Salyut space station successfully used by Soviet cosmonauts on only one manned mission has undergone significant design changes providing additional flexibility in the orientation attitudes in which the spacecraft can be operated. Added flexibility facilitates use of what the Soviets call their Salyut solar telescope, but which Western analysis indicates is more probably a ground reconnaissance system that has a film pod ejection capability.
