Shuttle Orbiter, Carrier Is Readied for Flight

Edwards AFB, Calif.—Flight phase of the space shuttle approach and landing test program, during which the No. 1 Rockwell International orbiter will be carried aloft on the back of a modified Boeing 747, is scheduled to begin Feb. 18, following the successful mating of the two vehicles here at National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Dryden Flight Research Center.
