Tokyo—The National Defense Council of Japan has approved the new five-year program to build the nation’s defenses submitted by the Defense Agency. The Ministry of Finance remains strongly opposed to the increased expenditures because of the recession and will attempt to cut defense appropriations during annual budget negotiations.

Airbus A310-300 Definition Completed

Toulouse, France—Airbus Industrie has completed definition of its proposed extra-long-range A310-300 transport and is nearing a formal launch decision for the heavyweight derivative of the A310. The A310-300 would be fitted with a horizontal tail fuel tank system that would enable the aircraft to carry additional fuel and make possible its transfer aft during flight.
