Cape Canaveral—Strategic Defense Initiative’s space experiment Sept. 5, which culminated in destruction of an orbiting Delta rocket stage, has provided data critical to the design of small kinetic energy weapons that could destroy Soviet ballistic missiles during launch, before release of their multiple warheads.

FanStar Business Aircraft Completes First Flight

Mojave, Calif.—American Aviation Industries completed a 35-min. first flight Sept. 5 of its FanStar business aircraft from General Electric’s flight test center here. The FanStar, an upgraded version of the Lockheed JetStar, reached 10,000 ft. and a maximum speed of 200 kt. during the flight.
