China, Grumman Cooperate On F-7M-Based Fighter

NEW YORK The People’s Republic of China and Grumman will begin preliminary design later this month of a low-cost fighter based on the Chinese F-7M aircraft. The single-seat, single-engine aircraft, named the Super-7, is an improvement of the proposed F-7M Saber 2 upgrade Grumman developed with Pakistan and China last year.

Brilliant Pebbles Testing Proceeds at Rapid Pace

WASHINGTON The SDI Organization has conducted classified flight testing of a new sensor for the Brilliant Pebbles kinetic energy interceptor, a concept that could be used in a strategic defense system. The testing is evidence that Brilliant Pebbles, a concept receiving high-level political support within the White House, is proceeding at a greatly accelerated pace relative to competing SDI kinetic energy projects.

Pentagon Preparing to Restart Antisatellite Program in January

WASHINGTON The Pentagon plans to restart work to develop an antisatellite (Asat) weapon next year, following a review in January by the Defense Acquisition Board. The revamped Asat would involve groundand ship-based hit-to-kill interceptors that could be deployed in the near term.
