Capacity and Traffic Worries Spur U. S. Airline Fare Cuts
NEW YORK American and Northwest airlines last week introduced fare cuts that were quickly matched by some other carriers, reflecting the industry’s concern about excess capacity and weak traffic. In American’s promotion, passengers who buy first-class, business-class or full-fare coach tickets to Europe or Japan will receive a free ticket good for travel anywhere American flies, later this year.
