FACE TO FACE

Service That Flies

After several false starts, 2014 is shaping up to be the year in which high-throughput satellite broadband for commercial airlines finally takes off. Front and center is service provider ViaSat Inc., whose Exede in the Air is available with the all-Ka-band ViaSat-1, which covers portions of the North Atlantic air route and the continental U.S., and whose ViaSat-2 will offer even more oceanic coverage of the Atlantic and the Caribbean when it launches in 2016.
