National Aeronautics and Space Administration sees little promise for thermoelectric converters in space and is not working in this area at present. Thermoelectric converters should be run at high temperatures in space to obtain maximum efficiency and minimum radiator size.

Army High-speed Vtol Efforts Pushed

Army has received qualified approval from Defense Dept, to begin the program definition phase for its proposed Advanced Aerial Fire Support System (AFS) for a troop support, escort and fighter helicopter. The system, formerly called the Fire Support Aerial System, has attracted considerable industry interest because of its production potential, and has stimulated company and Army-sponsored research and development effort in high-speed helicopter configurations using stub wings and auxiliary jet engines.
