Radar Offers Terrain Following, Mapping

Phoenix, Ariz.—A forward-looking airborne radar which has the ability to perform simultaneously terrain following, terrain avoidance and ground mapping functions for a wide variety of low-flying aircraft is nearing completion here at the Military Electronics Div. of Motorola. phase monopulse sensing technique in which only elevation information sensed along the radar boresight is accepted and processed, while the remaining information in the beam is gated out.

Washington—Recent evidence which shows that a simple crystal diode with a high reverse bias voltage applied will generate moderate amounts ot microwave power at frequencies of 10 gc. and higher is sparking intensive interest here and abroad.
