Ridley Park, Pa.—Boeing Vertol Co. is developing major improvement programs on both the CH-46 and CH-47 series medium-lift helicopters, with the goal of extending their service life—and export potential—well into the 1990s. The company has identified a potential for 167 export sales of the CH-47 through 1984.

Seattle—Boeing’s 747SP (special performance) transport program is moving toward its first flight, scheduled less than a year from now, with a cast of subcontractors that is lending an international flavor to the effort. Companies from four nations have joined the effort to build a fore-shortened, long-range version of the widebody transport, as Boeing plays the offset game to help sell this airplane and its other products abroad.
