Sembach AB, West Germany—The 601st Tactical Control Wing, which provides radar control and surveillance of U. S. and Allied aircraft in Central Europe, is expected to be nearly as mobile as the forward edge of the battlefield itself. It has to deploy radars and extensive ground support equipment on schedules so short that they often demand helicopter lift.
