Weinan, China—The Chinese satellite mission control center here is undergoing a complete renovation to install multiple digital computer systems and bring the facility’s capabilities in line with the technology of the 1980s. A U. S. team recently visited space facilities across the People’s Republic (AW&ST July 8, p. 16).

Washington—The effects of the pilots’ strike against United Airlines and continued emphasis on cost containment allowed nine of the 12 major U. S. airlines to report increased operating profits in the second quarter. Eight of the dozen reported improved net profits in the April-June period, compared with the 1984 period.

New York—First Aeronautic Development Corp. (ADC) SilentKnight hush kit has been installed on a Zantop International Airlines McDonnell Douglas DC-8-62F aircraft. The hush kit is used to attenuate engine noise on DC-8-62/63 series aircraft for compliance with Federal Aviation Requirement 36 Stage 2 and International Civil Aviation Organization Annex 16 noise regulations.
