British Aerospace Identifies 22-carrier Market Base for Advanced Turboprop

Manchester, England—British Aerospace has identified 22 air carriers it believes will form the core of a worldwide market for its advanced turboprop (ATP) transport in the next few years. The manufacturer believes there will be a total world market of 1,000-1,400 new turboprop aircraft by the end of the century and it expects the ATP, a derivative of the HS. 748, to capture at least 400 of these.

The relative ease with which space shuttle Mission 61-B astronauts assembled and disassembled truss elements of the type that may be used to construct the framework for the U. S./International Space Station was another prime demonstration that man can work effectively in the weightless environment of space when provided with properly designed tools, which do not necessarily have to be complex.

Johnson Space Center—The National Aeronautics and Space Administration will follow the space construction activity carried out on Mission 61-B with other shuttle structural assembly demonstrations designed to reduce the risk of undertaking the actual space station buildup.
