Gripen Testing Accelerates; Flight Control Fixes Set

LINKOPING, SWEDEN The Swedish Air Force has taken delivery of three JAS 39 Gripen multirole fighter aircraft so far this year and expects to take as many as seven more before the year is out. Although deliveries of the advanced fighter were considerably delayed because of crashes of the first prototype in 1988 and the first production aircraft delivered last year, Saab Military Aircraft officials said the Gripen program now is approaching full production rate.

WASHINGTON The U.S. Air Force expects to make initial agreements next spring for the sale of most of the 300-350 F-l6s that are becoming surplus with the drawdown of active-duty, reserve and Air National Guard fighter wings, according to a senior Air Force official.
