Activities at Fairfield Air Intermediate Depot—The Repair Branch of the Fairfield Air Intermediate Depot, Ohio, is extremely active. During the month of March there were turned out complete with engines and flight tested: 20 DH4B’s, 1 DH4B1, 4 JN4HGA2, 8 JN6H1, 1 Spad 13E, total 35; engines completed: 21 Liberty 12A’s, 10 Wright I’s, 12 Wright A’s, 2 Wright E’s and 1 Wright H, total 46.

My acquaintance with geology is unfortunately only rudimentary and I venture to think that few of us airmen possess more than a very superficial knowledge of this science, but I shall try to illustrate briefly how in the ordinary course of our flying duties by the easy acquisition of a few facts and principles we can employ a certain portion of the geologists’ work greatly to our practical benefit.

Since the last bulletin printed through the courtesy of the Editor, the chapter movement in the membership plans of the Association has made gratifying strides. The activities are listed by Districts. First District Requests for the formation of chapters from this District have reached national headquarters from the Mayor of Boston; William P. Sheffield of the Chamber of Commerce of Newport, R. I.; from the Chamber of Commerce of Providence, R. L; while Frederick K. Harris, President of the Aero Cub of Vermont, states that the Aero Club will be changed to a chapter of the N.A.A.

The International Air Convention

WITH the ratification of the International Air Navigation Convention by Italy a further step has been made toward the unification of the laws of the air. As a result, today an identical set of regulations governs the navigation of the air in ten countries having an aggregate population of 715 millions.

Italy Ratifies International Air Convention

The Italian government on March 13, 1923, ratified the International Air Navigation Convention, the provisions of which came into force for Italy on April 23, last. The Convention is now in force in the following countries: Relgium, Bolivia, British Empire, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Persia, Peru, Portugal, Siam and Yugoslavia.

St. Louis Air Races

Benjamin F. Bush, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Missouri Pacific Railroad, has been appointed director-general of the St. Louis Air Races, to be held in October. Mr. Bush was present at a meeting of the finance committee of the Air Board when the announcement of his appointment was made, and immediately accepted.

ONE of the difficulties incident to the testing of helicopters which is generally overlooked is that the piloting of such machines differs considerably from that of airplanes and that the men who undertake this hazardous work have to teach themselves to fly, just as the Wright brothers, Curtiss, Bleriot and the Farmans did some fifteen years ago.
