So many inquiries have been coming in to this department about test-piloting of light planes that the following analysis has been made to assist those who have not had technical training. The flight testing of a new airplane is a problem in "feel" or touch.

The Independent Air Force

When in 1917 the idea of an Independent Air Force, as a Third Service separate from the Navy and Army, was first advocated in England, nobody was more opposed to it than oneself. The argument that the Air should have a Service of its own, on the principle of one Service for the Sea, one for the Land, and one for the Air, seemed merely silly, because the Air is common to the Navy and the Army.
