An Introduction to the Helicopter

The helicopter or direct-lift type of aircraft has many enthusiastic supporters, and the achievement of vertical ascent, vertical descent and hovering flight are beyond doubt of real interest. In spite of numerous flights already made with this type of aircraft, it is difficult to say at the moment whether we have, in the present-day helicopter, the first stages of a valuable type of flying machine, or merely a forced idea.
