Last week the Army at the Boston Airport made twenty-five flights and flew 18 hr. 15 min. Lieut. Frank Crowley flew to Mitchel Field and return on Tuesday while Major Gilkeson flew to Edgeworth Arsenal on Wednesday and returned the following day.

The Ford Reliability Tour

THE commencement of the Ford Reliability Tour is now at hand, the airplanes entered for tour of middle western cities and states being due to start on the first leg of the circuit on Sept. 28. Approximately twenty entries are listed for the event, which, it is particularly stipulated, is not in the form of a contest but a straight forward tour for commercial airplanes tending to encourage the reliable and useful operation of aircraft for commercial and general civilian purposes.

Illinois Reserve

Under the command of Capt. Joseph L. Whitney, A.S. Res., of Chicago, thirty-five reserve officers from the State of Illinois were mobilized at Chanute Field and underwent military training for the period from Aug. 16 to Aug. 30. They drilled.

On Friday afternoon, Aug. 14, at 4:30 p. m., the troops, consisting of officers of the Rockwell Air Intermediate Depot, the 91st Aero Squadron, and the Reserve Officers in Camp, were paraded on the field in front of the Officers’ Club and the Distinguished Service Medal awarded by Congress was presented to Capt. Lowell H. Smith and 1st Lieut. Erik H. Nelson for services performed in connection with the World Flight, which was in command of Captain Smith.
