Pittsburgh, Pa.

On Thursday, April 29th, the Aero Club of Pittsburgh observed “Inspection Day” at Rodgers Field, the Pittsburgh Airdrome. The program was arranged primarily to entertain the Mayor, members of City Council, County Commissioners and thirty other city and county officials in order to have them inspect the Field and to promote the organization of an air board to operate the field.

Bombing Practice Scores With Tortilita Island (approximately the size of a battleship) as a target, five Martin bombers from France Field, the U.S. Army air base in the Canal Zone, recently dropped forty bombs in bombing practice at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal.

“Side Slips”

In New York, recently, one of the river steamers was rammed by a barge and had to be beached in order to save the passengers and crew. The New York papers had all sorts of headlines and special notes calling attention to this “remarkable piece of seamanship” on the part of the captain.

Flying activities by Dakota Airplane Company, Ferney, S. D., have been going on despite dust storms and high winds during the Spring months. Four students received training and soloed this Spring, and three more students are busy taking their training now.
