Findings Issued in Gander Accident

The crew’s attempt to continue a landing approach using both GCA and visual reference to the ground under conditions of restricted cockpit visibility probably caused the TWA DC-4 accident at Gander, Newfoundland, last Mar. 2. Official Civil Aeronautics Board report on the mishap states that there was no malfunctioning of the aircraft, engines or GCA equipment prior to or during the approach.
