USAF announces it has ordered into production a new single-seat fighter-bomber version of the Lockheed F-94, the F-94D, similar to the F-94C interceptor. It uses the P&W J-48, rated at 6,250-lb. thrust without afterburner. This confirms AVIATION WEEK’S May 7 story that such a plane had been proposed by Lockheed to the AF, to carry extra fuel tanks in the space occupied by the radar operator in the F-94C . . .
