Power Increase Planned for Coin T-37

Cessna YAT-37D attack-trainer, to be evaluated by the U. S. Air Force for counter-insurgency (COIN) air warfare capabilities, will have more than twice the engine power of the twin-jet T-37B trainer from which it is derived. This will enable it to carry 3,000 lb. of armament while retaining favorable short-field landing and takeoff characteristics.

We read with interest recent letters concerning crash locator beacons (AW Apr. 29, p. 110 and May 13, p. 134), and concur with the desirability of pursuing such systems. However, it should be noted that there are underwater systems already in existence which could locate aircraft downed on overwater flights.
