Farnborough 1966 reflected the paradox of the British aerospace industry. Never has it enjoyed a higher level of prosperity and never has it faced the prospects of such a gloomy future. By every yardstick, the British aerospace industry is operating at a postwar peak of prosperity.

House Armed Services Committee this week begins a searching inquiry into U. S. tactical aircraft needs and the aerospace industry’s ability to fill them. Rep. Otis G. Pike (D.-N. Y.), a former Marine Corps dive bomber pilot, heads the special tactical aircraft subcommittee conducting the probe for the full committee.
