Launch Set for Gravity-gradient Vehicle

Silver Spring, Md.-Attempt to demonstrate gravity-gradient stabilization for synchronous orbiting satellites will be made early next year with the launching of the Dept. of Defense gravity experiments (Dodge) satellite. It will be put into a circular, equatorial, nearly synchronous orbit at an altitude of 21,000 mi. with a 22.26-hr. period.

Johnsville, Pa.-Federal Aviation Agency’s dynamic simulation study here of jet transport stability characteristics during severe turbulence has been completed by 64 pilots without any losses of control occurring. With increasing emphasis placed on advanced simulators and the need for additional instruction in swept-wing aerodynamic theory in airline pilot training programs, the study could have a major influence on revisions to airline pilot training programs (AW&ST Aug. 1, p. 42).
