Israelis Relied on Helicopters for Movement of Troops, Logistics Support, Pilot Rescue
Tel Aviv-Airborne mobility tactics used by Israel in the six-day war with the Arabs reflected a definite move toward the use of helicopters to carry paratroops behind enemy lines. Only one parachute landing of troops was planned. That mission was scrubbed when it was discovered Egyptian troops had evacuated Sharm-el-Sheikh, permitting the transports to land at the airfield to discharge troops (AW&ST July 17, p. 89).
