Meyers Deplores Viet Air War Gradualism

Gen. Meyers. I think that in any review or look at the Vietnam war, first you must look at the strategy or the policy which is being pursued over there, and my understanding, of course, is that we have three stated objectives. [The objectives, which were restated earlier in the hearing, are: to assist the South Vietnamese in eliminating the armed enemy within South Vietnam, to support the South Vietnamese in the extension of their government’s control over its own territory and to apply gradually increasing pressures against North Vietnam so as to cause North Vietnam to cease supporting and directing the insurgency in South Vietnam.]

Los Angeles-British Overseas Airways Corp. will begin preliminary flight tests late next spring of the inertial navigator that is to serve as the primary long-range navigation device for the Boeing 747 subsonic transport. North Viets Quickly Return Phuc Yen to Full Operation

Washington-Phuc Yen air base, major North Vietnamese headquarters for the Soviet-built MiG-21 Mach 2 jet fighter, returned to operational service last week despite three days of heavy strikes by U.S. aircraft in late October. The base near Hanoi, which had been on the White House proscribed list of targets until late last month, proved to be a tough target.
