Meyers Deplores Viet Air War Gradualism
Gen. Meyers. I think that in any review or look at the Vietnam war, first you must look at the strategy or the policy which is being pursued over there, and my understanding, of course, is that we have three stated objectives. [The objectives, which were restated earlier in the hearing, are: to assist the South Vietnamese in eliminating the armed enemy within South Vietnam, to support the South Vietnamese in the extension of their government’s control over its own territory and to apply gradually increasing pressures against North Vietnam so as to cause North Vietnam to cease supporting and directing the insurgency in South Vietnam.]
