'Technological Forecasts'

Technological forecasting is a periodic effort to determine the long-range implications of technological progress. It goes beyond the advanced planning that every successful company or government agency must do. . . . As a rule, a technological forecast is such a sizable effort that it cannot be afforded on an anuual basis, although we can certainly look forward to technological forecasts being conducted at increasingly shorter intervals.

Saturn Flight Data Meet NASA Objectives

Washington—Saturn 5 launch vehicle and its Apollo payload performed well within acceptable mission tolerances despite some still unexplained deviations from the Nov. 9 flight plan (AW&ST NOV. 13, p. 32). National Aeronautics and Space Administration still is analyzing data from the complex systems involved in the first flight of the Saturn 5 and an Apollo command and service module, but refinements since the successful recovery of the spacecraft show all major mission objectives were achieved.

Jaguar Refusal

Paris—French officials have confirmed reports from Bonn that the West German government has decided against ordering the Anglo-French Jaguar jet fighter-trainer. Reportedly, West German Defense Minister Gerhard Schroeder may have decided to order several hundred McDonnell F-4 aircraft from the U.S. (see p. 23).
