Norway Designs New Landing Aid

Kjeller, Norway-Blind landing system employing gamma rays rather than radio waves has been designed and tested here, by the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment (NDRE). Called Hermes, the system was conceived by Dr. G. E. B. Barstad of the Defense Research Establishment and developed in part with U.S. Air Force funds under the Mutual Weapons Development Program.

New York-Northwest Orient Airlines is the latest U.S. trunk carrier to make a significant enough change in its accounting treatment to affect the size of its reported profits. Such changes in the airline business have been frequent over past years and generally have involved one of two areas: depreciation life of property, usually flight equipment, or handling of the 7% investment tax credit against Federal income tax.
