Apollo 10 Furnishes Vivid Lunar Details

Houston—Vivid verbal descriptions of the moon’s surface by the Apollo 10 astronauts agree well with those of the Apollo 8 crew in most instances except for colors. The Apollo 10 crew appears to have seen many more shades of brown than were seen by Apollo 8 although the latter, in post-flight photographic debriefings, indicated that their black and white photos should have a brown tinge, to be most accurate.

Altimeter Uses Constant Beat Frequency

Paris—Radio altimeter design, developed here to meet the critical needs of Category 3 instrument landings, will be used on the Concorde and new French military aircraft, both fixed and rotary wing types. The new design, developed by France’s TRT (Telecommunications Radioelectriques et Telephoniques), is being considered for use on one of the U.S. trijet commercial transports.

SAS Uses New Data Processing System

Stockholm—Scandmavian Airlines System’s new data processing network, designed to SAS requirements by Univac, provides many of the features of new generation systems but at a much lower operating cost. The system is used for passenger reservations and food service, and will soon be expanded to handle aircraft load control, materiel supply, passenger statistics service and eventually crew assignments.
