There is a fear that if the dust storm persists for too long, a large portion of Mariner 9’s planned mapping mission will not be accomplished.

New Rotor Blade Tests Ahead of Schedule

Stratford, Conn.—Sikorsky Aircraft is finishing the first phase of flight testing of its Improved Rotor Blade system about three months ahead of its original timetable—largely because of a “semi-Skunk Works” type of program. Unlike a fully projectized structure, the $2.9-million Navy development program for a titanium spar and glass fiber skin blade (AW&ST Sept. 6, p. 43) did not have a completely separate management structure.
