Harbor Control Could Spark New Market
San Francisco—Growing effort to reduce the direct losses and costly side effects of marine accidents could stimulate a new market for radar, computers and displays for marine traffic advisory or control systems. Marine accidents have been responsible for losses to U.S. shipping of $40-95 million annually in recent years, the U.S. Coast Guard said, and the potential for even more losses is growing with the number of ships and their increasing size, notably in the tanker category.
