Hampton, Va.—Initial research operations with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Boeing 737 terminal-configured vehicle (TCV) have been slowed by problems in the aircraft’s computerized control system. But early evaluations of the aircraft’s hardware have been completed by NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Washington—Federal Aviation Administration is setting up a small independent panel to make a quick study of recommendations by a House subcommittee to improve the agency’s air safety policies and procedures. In its report issued late last month, the special subcommittee on investigations of the House Interstate and Foreign Commerce Committee was highly critical of FAA’s recent performance in air safety.

Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil—Brazil is expanding its drive to develop an integrated aircraft industry—from airframes to roll bars—based on domestic designs coupled with international cooperative projects. Major impetus to the push is the need to drive down the volume of aerospace imports in a country relying strongly on aerospace hardware and techniques (AW&ST Dec. 16, 1974, p. 18) in its top-priority effort to open the vast, roadless areas of its interior.
