About 1836 EST on Jan. 9, 1975, a U. S. Air Force Convair VT-29D (CV-340) and a Cessna 150H collided in flight over the James River near Newport News, at an altitude of 1,500 ft. The five crewmembers and two passengers aboard the Convair and the pilot and passenger aboard the Cessna were killed.
