Moffett Field, Calif.—Computer-aided delayed flap approaches using retarded thrust along a conventional glidepath can save hundreds of pounds of fuel per landing, recent flight tests here have demonstrated. The tests also are expected to confirm predictions of significant noise abatement advantages over conventional approaches.
