Synopsis On Nov. 26, 1975, American Airlines McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and a Trans World Airlines Lockheed L-1011 almost collided head-on at 35,000 ft. near Carleton, Mich. Both aircraft were operating in instrument meteorological conditions, within positive control airspace and while under the control of the Cleveland Air Route Traffic Control Center.

Paris—Forced landing 3 mi. from Paris Orly Airport and subsequent destruction by fire of a Varig Boeing 707 transport with 134 persons on board in July, 1973, was probably due to a fire that started in the rear starboard toilet area of the aircraft, according to the final report of a French accident investigation team.

—Next major technology advance for ramjet-powered missiles may be a joint Navy-Air Force medium-range air-to-air missile in the Navy/Raytheon Sparrow-size category that could be available in the 1985 time period. Still in the conceptual stage in the Naval Air Systems Command, the MRAAM would be a tactical weapon against bombers, fighters and cruise missiles.
