Caseless Gun Seen 300% More Effective

Bethpage, N. Y.—Study performed here by the Grumman Aerospace Corp. for the Naval Weapons Center strongly indicates that a caseless, 25 mm. liquid propellant (LP) gun would prove a highly efficient and effective air-to-air weapon for advanced aircraft with a 300% or better increase in kill probability than the standard 20 mm. gun now being used in air-superiority fighters.

Washington—Airline contingency plans functioned smoothly last week during Hurricane Belle, although each airline operating on the East Coast reacted differently to the conditions. Some airlines canceled operations completely in the New York area, while others canceled flights into certain airports and others kept flying for most of the evening of Aug. 9.

... I’d like to discuss some of the major new initiatives we are taking within the Defense Dept. to streamline the way we manage our acquisition business. This overall effort has two objectives: first, to lower our unit costs, so we can buy enough equipment with the resources provided; and, secondly, to make doing business with us a more sought-after objective of the private sector, so as to broaden our industrial base, for both greater competition and increased “surge” capacity.
