Installation of the AN/ALQ-161 electronic warfare (defensive avionics) system on the No. 4 USAF/Rockwell B-1 bomber is under way at the company’s Palmdale, Calif., facility, and initial flight tests are to begin by early next year. Radiation pattern tests on the ALQ161s three phased-array antennas, installed on a full-scale mockup mounted on a pedestal, have been completed successfully at a company facility in Weed Patch, Calif.
