Funding constraints and the need to obtain elementary systems operation data on the use of large structures will delay “beam-machine” type fabrication in space until later in the 1980s.

Otis AFB, Mass.—USAF/Raytheon Pave Paws phased array radar system here, essentially completed and moving toward full operational acceptance, is expected to provide an early warning capability that will detect and track 10-sq.-meter (107.6sq.-ft.) missile targets at ranges up to 3,000 naut. mi.

Albatross Refurbished for Commuter

Chalks International Airline’s modified and refurbished 28-passenger Grumman Aerospace HU-16 Albatross will be used to satisfy the increased passenger demand for amphibian commuter service from the company’s Miami base. Chalks, a division of Resorts International, has contracted with Grumman to modify one Albatross, with the anticipation that within two years following Federal Aviation Administration certification of the amphibian, all eight of Chalks’ Albatrosses could be modified.
