Beale AFB, Calif.—Unique capabilities of the USAF/Lockheed U-2 high-altitude surveillance aircraft have enabled it to continue to play a key role in the Strategic Air Command’s global operations despite the fact that it was designed more than 25 years ago as an aerial reconnaissance platform with a short-term limited mission.
