Washington—USAF’s tactical air forces are making a strong case in the Pentagon for continued production of fighter-attack aircraft at accelerated rates through the 1980s and for modification programs to improve performance. In a major policy reversal, the Air Force has decided to move away from a daylight, limited adverse-weather capability in its stable of new fighters to a night, full adverse-weather weapons delivery capability.

Washington—Soviet Union is building more than 600 MiG-23 Flogger aircraft each year and U. S. intelligence officials expect the production of the Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer to more than double for frontal aviation units. While the USSR is making improvements to upgrade its MiG-23s and Su-24s, it also is producing the MiG-25 Super Foxbat, a two-seat version equipped with look-down/shoot-down radar.
