Ntsb Investigates Causes of 1980 Transport Crash

As a result of its investigation of the crash of Southern Airways, Inc., DC-9-31, N1335U, at New Hope, Ga., on Apr. 4, 1977, the safety board issued the following safety recommendation: “Initiate research to determine the attenuating effects of various levels of precipitation and icing on airborne radomes of both Xand C-band radar, and disseminate to the aviation community any data derived concerning the limitations of airborne radar in precipitation (Class 2, Priority Action) (A-78-1).”

Houston—Reentry of the second space shuttle flight will include far more dynamic activity than the first shuttle mission as astronauts USAF Col. Joe H. Engle and Navy Capt. Richard H. Truly maneuver Columbia extensively to obtain new reentry aerodynamic data for comparison with Mission 1.
