Ntsb Investigates Causes of 1980 Transport Crash

As a result of its investigation of the crash of Southern Airways, Inc., DC-9-31, N1335U, at New Hope, Ga., on Apr. 4, 1977, the safety board issued the following safety recommendation: “Initiate research to determine the attenuating effects of various levels of precipitation and icing on airborne radomes of both Xand C-band radar, and disseminate to the aviation community any data derived concerning the limitations of airborne radar in precipitation (Class 2, Priority Action) (A-78-1).”
