West Palm Beach, Fla.—Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Group is upgrading the RL10 cryogenic engine to give it increased capabilities as the powerplant for the General Dynamics Centaur upper stage. Pratt & Whitney is also working to develop basic technology so the engine or a derivative could be used in such applications as the space plane or orbit-to-orbit shuttle.
