Johnson Space Center—Space shuttle management reexamined the possibility of landing shuttle Mission 8 at Kennedy Space Center as both the first night and first Kennedy landing of the program but decided flight safety benefits of an Edwards AFB, Calif., landing outweighed other considerations, according to USAF Lt. Gen. James A. Abrahamson, who heads the shuttle program.

Hawk Air Defense Brigade Operational

Alexandria, Egypt—The first brigade of the Egyptian Air Defense Force equipped with the Raytheon Improved Hawk surface-to-air missile has completed training and is operational as Egypt blends U. S., European and Soviet missiles and doctrines to modernize its air defense system. The second brigade of four Improved Hawk (IHawk) batteries is in training at the Air Defense Institute near this Mediterranean seaport city, where surface-toair missile training also is conducted for Soviet-built weapon systems.
